GAIA'S CYCLE - THE FUTURE OF URBAN FARMING

Our Mission

Gaia’s Cycle is an innovative urban farm project that focuses on the environmentally friendly and resource-efficient production of fresh vegetables, lettuce, sprouts, herbs, fish and crabs in energy-autonomous, CO2-neutral indoor farms. Using a combination of vertical farming and aquaculture, a closed-loop system is created that produces fresh, pesticide-free and microplastic-free food year-round.

Our product offers a unique selling proposition through the use of innovative green technologies and resource efficient production. The main target groups are local restaurants, daycare centers, retirement homes, schools, as well as private customers who benefit from a more sustainable, healthier and regional year-round food production, short delivery routes.

The technological innovation at Gaia’s Cycle is based on the combination of smart technologies that increase both the efficiency and sustainability of food production. The integration of vertical farming, aquaculture and advanced sensor technologies creates a closed-loop, resource-efficient system. The use of IoT (Internet of Things) and AI-powered analytics makes it possible to create optimal growing conditions for plants and animals while minimizing energy and water consumption. Here, real-time data on temperature, humidity, pH, nutrient levels and lighting conditions are continuously monitored and adjusted to optimize production processes. At the same time, high-quality, fresh and healthy food is produced, year-round, without crop failures/fluctuations due to extreme weather events.

The goal of energy self-sufficiency of the 1000sqm prototype is achieved through a rooftop PV system, installation of ground probes, heat pumps and ice storage technologies.

The founding team, led by Miriam Salzmann, has extensive expertise in the areas of quality assurance, energy management, environmental management and CSR. The founding of the company is planned for August 2023, after completion of the pre-founding coaching. Prototype development and construction is scheduled by February/ March 2024. Capital requirements for the project are currently being determined and are expected to be covered by public funding, equity and external investments, if necessary. The profitability of the company will be ensured through efficient, resource-saving production and sales to B2B and B2C customers.

Our Vision

Gaia’s Cycle contributes to solving societal and environmental sustainability challenges by enabling environmentally friendly, local food production. The reduction of CO2 emissions, especially in the food sector and for communities, are an important driver in the transformation process to achieve climate goals.

The founding project strives for sustainable business development and supports the 2030 Agenda as well as Germany’s goal of climate neutrality by 2045 and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
